Certified & Legal Translation

What certified translation means in Italy

In Italy, a certified (asseverata or giurata) translation is a translation accompanied by an official sworn declaration from the translator, affirming that the translation is faithful and complete to the best of their professional knowledge. The declaration is handwritten, stamped with the translator's court-registered seal, and in most cases also sworn before a notary or the court clerk.

This certification is required whenever a foreign document must be submitted to an Italian public body, or when an Italian document must be accepted by a foreign authority. Immigration offices, civil registries, courts, universities, and European regulatory agencies all require this standard.

Documents we translate most often

Over nine years our team has processed every category of legal document. The list below is not exhaustive, but it gives a sense of the range and depth of this specialisation.

  • Birth, marriage, death and divorce certificates
  • Passports, national identity cards and foreign residency documents
  • Academic diplomas, transcripts and professional qualifications
  • Commercial contracts, powers of attorney, and corporate deeds
  • Court judgements, legal orders and notarial acts
  • Criminal record certificates and police clearances
  • Asylum documentation and residence permit applications

Apostille and legalisation -- when it is needed

A certified translation and an apostille serve different purposes. An apostille is an official government stamp that authenticates the document itself. Our certified translation certifies the accuracy of the translated version. For documents destined for countries outside the Hague Apostille Convention, full legalisation through the relevant embassy or consulate is required instead.

If you need both services, our apostille coordination add-on handles the complete workflow, from obtaining the apostille on the source document to delivering the final certified translation with accompanying declarations.

Our process for certified translations

Send us the document. We reply within one hour with a fixed price and the exact delivery date. The project is then assigned to a translator officially registered with an Italian Court of Appeal for that language pair. A second bilingual professional edits the translation against the source document. The final file arrives with the translator's official sworn declaration, their court stamp and signature, ready for immediate submission.
